In Delhi the useful measure of a requirement is the metro line, not the kilometres. Dwarka to Rajouri Garden without a change can cost you less time than Saket to Mayur Vihar by road, which is why tutors here tend to hold one or two corridors, take everything outside them online, and read the locality on a posting before the subject. Ask which board the student follows as well, because CBSE, ICSE and international-board homes sit on the same street here and set very different work.
Not all of it is school work. Delhi holds a steady population of students living in rented rooms and PGs — the civil-services blocks around Mukherjee Nagar and Old Rajinder Nagar, commerce and university students around Laxmi Nagar and North Campus — and a requirement from that group looks nothing like a family's. They are adults, they want one specific paper or skill, they are paying out of their own pocket, and the arrangement is short and concentrated rather than a slot held all year. A school requirement is the reverse: a fixed pattern of days, agreed with a parent, expected to run until the board exams.
Two things eat a Delhi tutor's evening more than the map does. The first is the last stretch — visitor entry at the society gate, a lift, a lane no auto wants to turn into — which is how a metro ride that ended on time still becomes a class that starts late. The second is the season: fog and cold through December and January, heat in May, both of which shorten the hours anyone wants a tutor in the house, and both of which are when families who insisted on home visits will agree to online. Holding one corridor and teaching everything beyond it online is how most tutors here fill a week without spending it in transit.
