Class 6 is where one classroom teacher becomes six, and the single general science book splits into strands that each carry their own vocabulary. The work itself is not much harder than Class 5. What changes is the number of things an eleven-year-old is expected to track at once: homework set by different teachers on different days, and notes taken in class rather than dictated.
So marks that slip in Class 6 usually slip for organisational reasons rather than intellectual ones, and the fix is not the one most families reach for. A tutor at this stage is often more useful setting up how a child works — reading a chapter before it is taught, keeping one notebook that is still usable at revision time — than re-teaching the chapter that produced the bad mark.
It is also a sensible year to take one subject seriously instead of all of them. Most students who need help in Class 6 need it in one place, usually maths, or the language of instruction when it is not the language spoken at home.
