Taking Science after Class 10 is really two decisions, and the second one matters more. Physics and Chemistry with Mathematics keeps engineering and most degree courses open; Physics and Chemistry with Biology points towards medicine and the life sciences. Some students carry both Mathematics and Biology to keep the doors open a while longer, and end up with the heaviest timetable in the school.
The workload is the part families underestimate. Class 11 introduces more new material in its first term than any earlier year, three practical subjects run alongside the theory, and many students are preparing for an entrance exam on top of the board syllabus. When a student comes unstuck it is rarely for want of effort. It is usually that one subject slipped behind somewhere in the first term and there was never a free week to go back for it.
That is normally why a private tutor is brought in — for the single subject that is dragging the rest down, rather than for the stream as a whole. Class 11 Physics is the one that comes up most. Ask a tutor whether they teach the board syllabus, the entrance level, or both, because the same chapter is taught quite differently depending on which paper the student has to sit.
