Spoken English is not a school subject, and most people looking for it are not students. They are working adults, people preparing for interviews, people who have moved to a new city for a job, shopkeepers and salespeople dealing with customers who switch to English halfway through a sentence. Nearly all of them read English perfectly well. The gap is between understanding the language and producing it under pressure, and it usually has very little to do with grammar.
What is missing is speaking time. Someone can have years of English on paper and only a few hours of it out loud, and a class of thirty does not fix that, because everyone gets a minute each. One-to-one is essentially the whole method here: talking for the length of the session, being corrected as you go, and repeating the situations that actually matter to you — a phone call, an interview answer, a meeting where you have to disagree with somebody. There is no syllabus, so it is worth agreeing at the start what you want to be able to do, and judging progress by whether you can do it.
