Commerce is unusual in that its main subjects begin at zero in Class 11. Accountancy, Business Studies and Economics are not carried forward from Class 10, so a student's earlier school record says less than families expect about how the next two years will go. Students who found Class 10 easy sometimes slip, and students who did not sometimes settle in quickly.

Accountancy is where the trouble usually shows up first. It is cumulative in a way few school subjects are: one wrong entry near the start of a question travels all the way to the balance sheet, and the final answer is wrong even though the method was understood. Fixing that takes supervised practice under time, which is easier to arrange across a table than in a full class. Economics pulls the other way, with graphs, numericals and definitions that have to be used precisely, and Business Studies rewards applying a concept to a case rather than reciting it.

Most families add a tutor for one subject rather than all three, and it is most often Accountancy. It is worth asking whether a tutor takes the Class 12 syllabus as well as Class 11, since the two years are taught as one stretch and changing tutors halfway costs time. Students already thinking about CA or CS foundation usually want someone who knows that ground too.
